"Welcome Back" - An update on this season's new competitions (and the rules for them!) and a sharing of a few summer stories. [Also season 2017-2018 enrollment with completed membership registration forms and subscriptions due.]

"A Japanese Journey" - Ann Healey ARPS, DPAGB. Ann will take us on a whistle-stop glimpse of life in Japan.

Projected Digital Image Competition Round 1. Judge: David Smith LRPS. Maximum 2 image files per entrant.

"Themes and Dreams" - Philip George. In the Themes part of this evening Phil will show us how he produces a panel of images from the initial idea to taking the pictures. In Dreams Phil takes us through his progression over the last ten years in the genre of portraiture.
Print of the Year Competition Round 1. Judge: Rosemary Wilman Hon FRPS, AFIAP, BPE5*. Maximum 2 prints per entrant.

"An Evening with Pete Whieldon" - Pete Whieldon ARPS. Pete will show us a glimpse into his natural history photography with some of the trips and projects he's been involved in and sharing his obsession and passion for taking photographs and working with nature. If we're lucky he may bring a friend or two with him!

"Wildlife through a Lens" - Tom Way. In this talk Tom goes through what it takes to become a wildlife photographer. He will take us through his adventures over the last few years, from working in a gym to taking wildlife images around the world and exhibiting across the UK.

(Saturday) External Event - Surrey Photographic Association (SPA) AGM and Print & PDI competition (Open & Nature) for individual Club Members at East Horsley.

(Tuesday) Woking's Keith Hunt Digital AV Competition for individuals judged by Walter Benzie, Hon. FRPS at Parkview Centre, Sheerwater Recreation Ground, Blackmore Crescent, Sheerwater, Woking GU21 5NZ.

Projected Digital Image Competition Round 2. Judge: Edward Hyde ARPS. Maximum 2 image files per entrant.
"Looking at Nature" - Maurice Pugh. Maurice will share tips and hints for getting good wildlife images, including such subjects as deer, butterflies, moths, wild orchids, woodland birds and fungi.

(Saturday) External Event - Surrey Photographic Association (SPA) FotoFest Show and Workshops.

Print of the Year Competition Round 2. Judge: Sheena Rogers. Maximum 2 prints per entrant.

"What Makes a Good Photograph - a Tour Through the Genres of Photography" - Andrew Mills MA, MEd, CertEd, ARPS, BIPP. Andrew will take us through what makes a good photograph, looking at examples of historic and contemporay images and genres that are not usually seen in camera clubs.

(Saturday) External Event - Surrey Photographic Association (SPA) Inter-club Print Championship at East Horsley.

Brian Stater BA (Hons), MSc. In a two-part talk, Brian takes us through his views on photography as an art-form. "Part 1 - Outstanding Female Photographers and their contribution to the art of photography" - Often unfairly neglected, this presentation will cover such outstanding female practitioners as Julia Margaret Cameron, Jane Brown, Fay Godwin, Dorothea Lange and Annie Leibovitz. "Part 2 - Photography as Fine Art" - Questioning whether photography can equal, or even exceed, traditional art forms!

Projected Digital Image Competition Round 3. Judge: Rob Bonfield. Maximum 2 image files per entrant.
"How to Cheat at Photography" - Steve Galvin LRPS. Steve will share his 'sordid' secrets, demonstrate techniques on how to 'unfairly' manipulate images and show us how some of his more outrageous pictures were 'manufactured'. Be prepared to take part in Steve's quiz!

Projected Digital Image Competition - Set Subject - "Street Photography". Judge: John Nathan ARPS. Maximum 2 image files per entrant. In a new approach for 2017-2018, this is a non-league competition and the trophy will be awarded on the night. The image entries must have been taken after 31st May 2017.

(Thursday) External Event - Farnborough Camera Club's "Inter-Club Challenge" at Farnborough Community Centre Meudon Ave, Farnborough, Hampshire GU14 7LE at 7:45pm. Judge: Leo Rich ARPS, EFIAP/gold, DPAGB, BPE3*, HonPAGB.

Christmas Social. Festive food and entertainment in the Garden Room.

Print of the Year Competition Round 3. Judge: Rachael Talibart LRPS. Maximum 2 prints per entrant.

"Adventures in Aerial Photography" - David White. David has been running his aerial photography business (Heliview) for over 20 years and this evening will be sharing some of his experiences, and images, with us.

Inter-club AV Evening. In a friendly session Windlesham & Camberley, Ludshott Photographic Club, and Alton Camera Club share their members' AV work. Held at St. Paul's.
Projected Digital Image Competition Round 4. Judge: Brian Burden LRPS. Maximum 2 image files per entrant.
"Canon, Past, Present & Future" - David Parry & Sarah Bennett (both from Canon UK). David will discuss Canon's current range of cameras, now up to EOS 14, and talk about the future. There will be a 'touch and try' session after the break.

(Monday) External Event - Guildford Photographic Society's "Albany Cup" Competition at Burpham Village Hall, Burpham Lane, Guildford GU4 7LP, at 8:00pm.

Frank Wickenden Trophy Competition for panels of 5 prints. Judge: Sheena Rogers. Maximum of 2 panels per entrant. This is a non-scoring competition.

"A Further Foray into Alan's Amazing Archive" - Alan Meeks. Our very own Alan with another evening of entertainment showcasing his work and very often including some familiar faces!

Meeting cancelled due to bad weather. The planned Inter-club Competition event will take place on 11th April.
(Monday) External Event - Bracknell Camera Club's "9 Clubs" Competition at The Bracknell Open Learning Centre, Rectory Lane, Bracknell, RG12 7GR at 7:30pm. Judge: TBD.

"Impressions of the Landscape" - Janey Devine FRPS. Janey will explain how she has experimented with a number of techniques in her attempt to produce an 'impression' of the landscape.She will illustrate her talk with prints and discuss her use of long exposure, infra-red, pinhole and intentional camera movement.

(Tuesday) External Event - Surrey Advertiser Rosebowl Competition judged by Chris Palmer, FRPS, DPAGB, APAGB, AFIAP at Parkview Centre, Sheerwater Recreation Ground, Blackmore Crescent, Sheerwater, Woking GU21 5NZ at 8:00pm.

Print of the Year Competition Round 4. Judge: Tim Morland ARPS. Maximum 2 prints per entrant.

"The Experience of Creating Images” - Vanda Ralevska. Vanda will focus on photography as a journey & experience, of connecting with the surrounding world. Appreciating and making the most of whatever place, time and location you are in. Finding the extraordinary beauty that exists within everyday things and looking beyond the obvious!

(Tuesday) External Event - Woking Photographic Society's "Silver Jubilee Competition" hosted by Woking PS at Parkview Centre, Sheerwater Recreation Ground, Blackmore Crescent, Sheerwater, Woking GU21 5NZ at 8:00pm. Judge: David Mendus.

Windlesham & Camberley Inter-club Challenge Competition. Judge: Don Morley. We host our first inter-club challenge event for non-advanced photographers with 5 other invited clubs competing for The Challenge Trophy.

Print of the Year Competition Round 5. Judge: Amanda Wright. Maximum 2 prints per entrant.

"Travels with my Camera" - Steve Reynolds FIPF. Steve will be presenting the images that he produced for his successful Fellowship panel with the Irish Photographic Federation and, after the break, he will share with us his experience of Indian festivals in Varanasi and Sonepur Mela.
Annual General Meeting. Also an opportunity to socialise after the meeting.

Members AV Competition. Judge: Kathleen Bird CPAGB. Members have a maximum of 8 minutes and can use this in any way they wish. Please refer the rules on the Members Website. Entries to be with the club AV Group Leader by 18th April.

(Saturday) External Event - SPA Inter-Club PDI Competition.

(Saturday) External Event - Lightwater Village Fete at All Saints Church, Lightwater. Club print and PDI show.

"Solace" - Paul Sanders. Paul's presentation examines the motives behind his landscape photography since leaving his position as Picture Editor of The Times and setting out to find the photographer he really is. Some of us have already seen Paul at RPS TV DIG - this is a thought provoking presentation with some beautiful images!

(Saturday) External Event - Surrey Heath Show at Frimley Lodge Park, Frimley Green. Club print exhibition.

Manx Trophy Competition for the best print on the night. Judge: Carole Speight ARPS, DPAGB, APAGB. Maximum 2 prints per entrant. This is a non-scoring competition and prints must have been entered in other club print competitions in the past two years.

Finals Night. Social evening with entertainment and presentation of trophies and awards. The new Paul Barrow Nature Trophy Competition (for PDI) will also be awarded. Titles (maximum 2 per entrant) for the Paul Barrow Trophy need to be supplied to the Internal Competition Secretary by 25th April 2018 and the judging will take place remotely after that (judge: David Smith LRPS).


Members note for competitions: For Projected Digital Image and Print competitions a zip file containing the images must be sent by email to the relevant Internal Competition Secretary at least a week before the competition. For print competitions the titles must be also notified by email to the Print Internal Competition Secretary at least a week before the competition.

Note that from this season the PDI resolution has changed to max 1600px horizontal x max 1200px vertical. Image files for projection alongside your print need also to be max 1600px x max 1200px.

Meetings are held at our regular venue on Wednesday evenings commencing at 7:45pm unless otherwise stated.

The club does not meet in the summer months of June, July, and August; although evening outings may be arranged at times and venues to be decided.

Next season commences on 5th September 2018.
